SUMEDANG
Sumedang, a little town which is located between Indramayu
in the north, Garut in the south, Bandung and Subang in the west; and
Majalengka in the east. The total people who lives in Sumedang is about
1.240.000 people. Sumedang with large of area about 155.871,98 Ha, has almost
700 people per kilometers square.
Sumedang is located about 45 kilometers from Bandung.
Nowadays,Sumedang will have one of the biggest lake in South
East Asia ( ASEAN – Association of South East Asian Nations ), with large of
area about 4.891 Ha. The lake is placed in some subdistric, like Jatigede, Wado
subdistric, Jatinunggal subdistric, etc. The lake is also called as “Jatigede
Lake“. The function of the lake is to be a tourist spot, to irrigate, to
prevent flood, etc. But, beside that, Jatigede Lake has a major function to be
an electric source for Java and Bali island. It can produce about 110 MegaWatts
(MW), and it is estimated to fulfill electric in Java – Bali.
Sumedang has a large history. In the sixteenth century,
Sumedang is a big kingdom that called “Sumedang Larang Kingdom”. It is also one
of the biggest kingdom in Indonesia in that era. The last leader of the kingdom
is “Prabu Geusan Ulun”. And Sumedang regency was built on 22th April, 1578.
With all of that history, Sumedang must have a large culture too.
